I’m Lisa Benson, combat veteran, roller derby skater, and founder of DeBella DeBall Designs.
I served in Iraq as a machine gunner. The experience taught me focus, discipline, and how to lead under pressure. But when I came home, nothing prepared me for the chaos of entrepreneurship.
Building a business after the military felt like a constant guessing game. I wasn’t following orders anymore—I was figuring everything out on my own. I had drive and grit, but no roadmap. I was exhausted, underpaid, and overwhelmed.
