I’m Lisa Benson—combat veteran, roller derby skater, and the founder of DeBella DeBall Designs.

I served in Iraq as a machine gunner—an experience that taught me resilience, focus, and how to operate under pressure. But nothing prepared me for the chaos I stepped into when I transitioned out of the military and into business.
Suddenly, I wasn’t following orders—I was figuring it out on my own. Building a business felt like a never-ending cycle of trial and error, and despite all my grit, I was exhausted, underpaid, and overwhelmed.

Roller derby became a lifeline. It gave me a place to process trauma, rebuild my confidence, and remember my power—on my terms. And slowly, I began building a business with that same energy: fierce, focused, and free.
